Equity Arcata’s Home Away from Home working group to host free meal and supply distribution

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM) — Equity Arcata’s Home Away from Home working group is hosting a meal and free stuff distribution for local college students this weekend.

The event will be held Sunday, May 2nd, from 4 to 5 pm at the D Street Neighborhood Center in Arcata. Students are able to pick up a free pre-packaged meal from Los Giles Taqueria and household supplies. It’s all thanks in part to funding from the Humboldt Area Foundation and Coast Central Credit Union.

The group is also looking for donations of new and unused supplies from the community. These can include things like cleaning supplies, toiletries, and non-perishable food items.

“A lot of students experience food insecurity when they’re in college, or even outside of college. The reason why we do these distributions is to make sure folks have a nice free meal and to us food is love. We want to make sure we’re providing that to support our students, and anything that the community can donate is so appreciated,” according to Cati Gallardo, the Communications Working Group Chair for Equity Arcata.
