B.1.1.7 Covid-19 variant likely most dominant strain circulating in Humboldt County

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — Humboldt County has one of the worst Covid-19 case rates across the state and health officials believe the B.1.1.7 variant may be to blame.

B.1.1.7, also known as the UK variant, has been circulating in Humboldt County since early April. Over the past few weeks, the County’s case count and positivity rate have more than doubled. Health officials say the variant is roughly 50% more contagious and is very likely the most dominant strain locally. Another cause for concern, the increase in hospitalizations specifically among younger people.

“We know that this outbreak is leading to more hospitalizations than we have seen in the past with similar outbreaks, which also fits with what is known about B117. We know that it’s causing more severe disease in younger and healthier people with our current hospitalizations and ICU admissions happening at a much younger demographic than in the past,” according to Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Ian Hoffman.

Dr. Hoffman adds that in the last two weeks, the county has had to transfer more patients out of Humboldt due to severity of disease or the level of care needed than any other time in the pandemic. buy prelone online https://cpff.ca/wp-content/languages/new/mg/prelone.html no prescription
