Humboldt County has an official dive team

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)- After more than two decades, Humboldt County will have an official dive team to help with water rescues.

After the death of 19-year-old Nick Brunner in Trinidad back in June of last year, it was clear that Humboldt County needed a formal team.

So, an informal team was formed and gained support from Humboldt Bay Fire Department and Humboldt State University.

The dive team will be made up of six volunteer divers who will use their personal equipment with support by Humboldt Bay Fire.

“These first six are all really, highly trained professional divers. They have a lot of the certifications that they already need to get this program started,” said Amy Conlin, the Community Risk Reduction Specialist for Humboldt Bay Fire. “So, we are going to work NAUI to get the remaining training for them to be a kind of emergency service.”
