Fortuna Mail Carrier Gets Recognized

FORTUNA, Calif. (KIEM) – A letter carrier in Fortuna is being recognized for his accomplishment of driving one million miles without a single accident.

Michael Bishop has worked for the Postal Service for more than 30years. He joined the Fortuna Post Office in 1998. He has demonstrated his great driving skills during his career with the Fortuna Post Office. Bishop will be inducted into the national safety council “Million Mile Club”. He has driven one million miles without ever leaving the Fortuna city limits.

“A million mile award is going 30 years without a preventable accident. I am very proud of that. There is only one other one in the break room at work. So mine will go next to his. I also get a jacket too,” said Michael Bishop.

His supervisors, district employees from San Francisco, his family, and the community will honor him. Michael has always wanted to be a mail carrier. He takes pride in his accomplishments and being a safe driver.

”Be patient while you are driving and being prepared and thinking about what the other driver might do. Being extra careful and looking around keeping an eye on all the traffic,” Bishop explained.
