Domestic Disturbance Call Turns into an Arrest

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)- Shortly before 8 PM on October 19th, Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to a residence on the 300 block of Higgins Street for a report about a domestic disturbance between a man and a woman.

When the deputies arrived at the scene, they were speaking with the woman at the front door. At that moment, the male suspect, identified as 54-year-old Gerald Fay Barnhart, rushed towards the deputies from inside the home and tried to shut the door. While trying to close the door, Barnhart grabbed and forcefully pushed a deputy causing visible injury.

Another deputy then struck Barnhart with a taser. Barnhart didn’t show any injuries from the taser.

Barnhart was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of obstructing and resisting a peace officer with violence.
