In less than 24 hours Humboldt State University will be no more

ARCATA, Calif.(KIEM)- Humboldt State has presented the initial movement to officially change Humboldt State into California’s third Polytechnic University. The meeting is tomorrow; if approved by the trustees, the name would be effective immediately.

In the last year, the state has designated HSU as a Polytechnic University. President Tom Jackson has championed the name change to assist in stimulating the economy of Northern California. Humboldt State is the largest employer in the area and contributes hundreds of millions of dollars. We went to campus to determine what students thought about the expected name change.

“As far as I know, becoming a polytechnic is great for the school. It increases funding, and it becomes a bigger destination for students across the country. I cant see a downside to that. Regarding the name, I can care less; being recognized as a polytechnic is what it’s all about,” said Fritzy Tossberg, a Student at Humboldt State.

The new name is expected to be California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt, which will be abbreviated to Cal Poly Humboldt.

“Im alright I think it should at least include Humboldt in it. Since I think it’s a very broad name if they change it to what they will change it to. But yeah, I kind of want Humboldt in it,” said Anna Brondos, a Student at Humboldt State.

Students also brought up that their school bookstore has been in back stock, so getting that new name on items might take some time.

“It’s going to be a while before we get any new poly tech ware because all of the old Humboldt State stuff is still on backorder, so we are going to be getting a lot of Humboldt state ware stuff before we even get the new stuff,” said Garrett Spruiell, Student at Humboldt State.

With the Cal State trustees set to ratify the name change on Wednesday morning, Humboldt State will likely exist for a few more hours.
