Mike Newman announced his candidacy to replace 4th District Supervisor

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif.(KIEM)- There’s now a 3-way contested race for the district with four seats on the board of supervisors.

Former Eureka City councilman Mike Newman announced his candidacy on the steps of the Humboldt County courthouse today. He becomes the third candidate to enter the race.

The others are current council members Natalie Arroyo and Kim Bergel.

The trio is seeking to replace retiring Supervisor Virginia Bass. But Newman says he has her support as a replacement.

“I am a better-qualified candidate, and I am running because I’ve been working towards this type of position in the past. It feels right at this time with Virginia stepping down. And with her support, I am running, and that’s why I decided to go ahead and put my hat in the ring. It took me a lot of thought and prayer to come to this decision,” said Mike Newman, 4th District Supervisor Candidate.
