Mask mandate will still remain in place for schools

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif.(KIEM)- As covid numbers improve across the country and here in Humboldt County, the debate over masks is unfolding.

Humboldt county will lift its indoor mask mandate come the middle of next week. But school kids are among the exceptions, and they will still have to wear masks.

At a press conference today, Public Health Officer Doctor Ian Hoffman was asked why masks will still be required in school classrooms and buildings.

“It’s a congregated setting where kids are at all day. And the sentiment is that by removing the masks at this point…it could potentially be leading to more kids out of school and more school closures,” said Dr. Ian Hoffman, Humboldt County Health Officer.
