Man arrested for allegedly burning down the Sherwood Forest Motel in Garberville

GARBERVILLE, Calf. (KIEM)- A man is behind bars on arson charges for allegedly burning down the Sherwood Forest Motel in Garberville.

30-year-old Spencer Reuben Jordan was arrested by CHP officers this morning. Authorities say they found evidence tying Jordan to yesterday’s blaze at the motel in the 8-hundred block of Redway Drive in Garberville.

Over three-quarters of a million dollars is believed to be the damage.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office says Jordan fled the fire scene and was found hiding out in another motel down the street from the one he’s accused of setting ablaze.

“Early this morning, about 6:18 A.M , we received information that Jordan was actually at a hotel just down the road. Just down the road from the other incident. He was located by the California Highway Patrol there and taken into custody without incident. And then, during a search for Jordan, we did find evidence consistent with arson. So he was arrested and booked into our correctional facility on charges of arson and vandalism,” said Samantha Karges, Public Information Specialist with Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
