EUREKA, Calif.(KIEM)- A major sewer repair project getting underway today in Eureka could cause some traffic issues along a portion of Broadway for the next two weeks.
West Washington street is closed at Broadway for that sewer maintenance work.
The construction work — which the city says is vital to maintaining the sewer system — will continue through June third.
The city says to expect traffic detours but says businesses will be accessible from Koster street.
“Unnoticed several months ago that they’re renewing the sewer system, the pipe system that runs down Washington Street. It’s about 40, 45 years ago that they last did this. And in addition to just the main line, they’re also replacing the laterals to each independent property. And the letter described potential cost of as much as $10,000 per property,” said Dale Warmuth, General Manager at Leon’s Car Care Center.
