More Than 150 Environmental Crimes Documented During Cannabis Enforcement Operation

TRINITY COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)- Authorities say more than a hundred and fifty environmental crimes have been documented over the past week. During a Cannabis Enforcement operation by Humboldt and Trinity County deputies.

The environmental violations were found as authorities served 34 search warrants on illegal, un-licensed cultivators.

During those raids, deputies destroyed over 84-thousand plants and more than 5-thousand pounds of processed cannabis.

California Fish and Wildlife officials tell us these illegal grow sites have a negative impact on the local environment.

” Obviously, the states in a historic drought and then during the summer months, typically we don’t have a lot of rain in general. The water that is in these streams is precious to the fish and wildlife that live in the area. And we have diversions to facilitate illegal cultivation activity. It just takes away an already precious resource and have a negative effect on those fish and wildlife species,” said Lt. Brendan Lynch, California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife.
