Willow Creek Wildfire Advisory caused by lightning strikes

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif.(KIEM)- Residents in the Willow Creek area are under what emergency management officials tonight are calling a Wildfire Advisory.

It comes after lightning strikes overnight here in Humboldt County — None of the fires are threatening structures at this point.

But the Humboldt Office of Emergency services says the ‘Wildfire Advisory’ means residents should be prepared for possible evacuation orders if any of these blazes turn threatening.

“There are some safety actions needed by residents. We introduced the term wildfire advisory. So this term is meant to alert the community of nearby fire activity and increase of fire personnel in their area, as well as asking community members if they have locked gates down private roads that may be a firefighter fire crew needs to access in order to access the fire. We ask that they unlock those gates and open them up so that both the firefighters can get to where they’re going. But also, if an evacuation does occur, that speeds up the process of getting out,” said Samantha Karges, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
