Klamath Dams to be decommissioned

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Ca.- The four dams on the Lower Klamath will be decommissioned.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission unanimously approved the surrender of the Lower Klamath project license.

The will allow the Klamath River Renewal Corporation to decommission and remove the four hydroelectric dams and begin to restore the area.

The process will start once the conditions of the surrender are approved by the KRCC, State of Oregon, and State of California.

This will transfer the ownership of the dams from Pacificorp to KRCC and the States.

The transfer is expected to be accepted within 30 days of today’s license surrender order.

Removing the dams will begin in 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2024.
