The only pupuseria business in Humboldt County is expanding with a food truck.

“We’re expanding by adding a food trailer to our business, which will allow us to be more mobile and which will allow us to open up more days and be more in the community,” said Gino Granados, the co-owner of Pupuseria San Miguel.

Pupusas are El Salvador’s national food dish. Gino and his mother Jorgelina Granados opened the doors of Pupuseria San Miguel in April 2022. Jorgelina has been cooking and selling pupusas everywhere she has moved to and Gino saw this growing up. Gino also saw a need for pupusas in Humboldt County and convinced his mother to open this business together.

“Pupuseria San Miguel, so San Miguel comes from the small town in El Salvador where my mom is from,” Gino said. “In 2005, the El Salvador legislation declared it the national dish of El Salvador. So at Pupuseria San Miguel, that’s our main dish, pupusas. Now that we have the food trailer, we’ll be able to expand our menu and offer other entrées from El Salvador.”

The trailer rolls out next week and can be caught on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Holly Yashi in Arcata. For other locations, dates and times follow Pupuseria San Miguel on Facebook or Instagram to stay up to date.

“It’s just a time to celebrate, this achievement, my mom’s hard work, the team’s hard work,” Gino said.

When the business first opened its doors to customers, they didn’t get the chance to celebrate. This time, they will be having a ribbon-cutting event this Saturday to capture the milestone for Pupuseria San Miguel at the Foodworks Culinary Center starting at 1 p.m.
