Requirements

Degree in journalism preferred, but will consider a journalism, film, or communications student.

Sports Anchor/MMJ

Cover awesome local sports stories in one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Redwood News (KIEM/KVIQ) has an immediate opening for a multi-media journalist focusing on local sports stories in Northern California. Our area has high school and college teams, along with a robust outdoor sporting community.

One week you may cover an MMA match at a local casino, preparations for a roller derby, training for a local marathon, along with high school and college football. The next week you could get a one-on-one with a winning pickleball team and explore the sport of archery.

This position is an opportunity to build your sports storytelling skills and resume reel in a learning newsroom.

What you will do: 

  • Develop enterprise sports content for newscasts
  • Shoot, write, and edit video
  • Social media and website content creation
  • Meet daily deadlines
  • Anchor sports segments as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements

Degree in journalism preferred, but will consider a journalism, film, or communications student.

Multimedia Journalist / Weathercaster

KIEM/KVIQ – Redwood News – located in beautiful Eureka, California is searching for our next multimedia journalist/weathercaster.

The perfect candidate isn’t just passionate about the weather but also loves telling the weather story and how it affects our viewers’ lives.

Responsibilities 

· Actively keep our viewers informed about changing weather via television, online, and social media

· Shoot, write, and edit daily weather-related stories for our newscasts

· Produce graphics that tell a clear weather story

· Deliver accurate forecasts that keep our viewers safe and informed about the weather

· Develop proficiency in our current technology

· Clearly communicate the weather story daily

· On-air weather forecasting

Requirements

Degree in Meteorology or weather science preferred.

This job is physically located in Eureka, California.

Hourly rate: $16/hour or more depending on experience.

Individual must excel at client relations, develop solutions to help grow clients’ business through multiplatform opportunities, and in managing contracts through all stages of the sales cycle. Organization, communications, and time management skills are a must.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Self-motivated and high energy salesperson.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks.
  • Analytical ability to utilize market analysis, ratings research, and other information to enhance sales efforts.
  • Ability to work well with customers and fellow employees.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and other computer applications.
  • Reliable and self-starting worker.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and Sales Experience preferred, but not required.

The Master Control Switcher is primarily responsible for monitoring the on-air signal (video and audio), ensuring overall quality of scheduled elements, and confirming the on-air accuracy of the Traffic log against the automation playlist.

Requirements
  • Well versed on Broadcast operations and procedural requirements to confirm accuracy and on-air readiness of scheduled material by checking the Traffic log and automation playlist.
  • Recover on-air signal accurately in the shortest time possible. Manually operate on-air equipment with the same reliability of automation systems during high-pressure situations such as human and equipment error, recovering air in shortest time possible.
  • Create clear, accurate and detailed reports of on-air discrepancies.
  • Ability to work under pressure, react promptly to operational changes and have the capacity to meet deadlines.
  • Ingest commercials and database programs from electronic and linear forms
  • Be able to work flexible shift schedules that may involve nights, weekends and/or holidays
