Teen Collects $600 in Restaurant Gift Card Donations For Fortuna Police

FORTUNA – One local teenager is showing her support for peace officers with a delicious donation.

This summer, 14-year-old Railey Kerrigan raised $600 worth in gift cards from local restaurants so Fortuna Police officers could enjoy a free lunch.

Monday, she stopped by the station to surprise the department.

Railey was inspired to take on this challenge because of the Tim Tebow Foundation’s Service Day – a day which Tim Tebow wanted youth of America to appreciate those who serve them.

She went from business to business asking for donations, and altogether over 20 businesses pitched in and signed cards of appreciation for the officers.

“Each officer got a personal card written from the business expressing their appreciation to the officers for what they do and that’s gold,” said Lieutenant Matthew Eberhardt, “We were surprised and honored that this young girl wanted to do outreach to the police department and we are grateful.”

“I really want to thank those businesses for what they did and I really want to thank the police officers for what they do and how they keep us safe,” added Railey, “They literally put their life on the line every day for what they do and I just want to say thank you to all the law enforcement and the first responders here in Humboldt County for what they do.”
