CHP: 4 DUIs, 9 arrests, 1 fatality during New Year’s Eve enforcement period

ARCATA – CHP removed four DUI drivers from Humboldt County roads during the new year’s maximum enforcement period.
Between 6:00pm Friday and 12:00 Monday night, California Highway Patrol officers made a total of nine arrests, four for driving under the influence.
Additionally, CHP responded to five collisions. As we reported earlier one of those resulted in the death of 17-year-old pedestrian, Elias Silva. DUI was not a factor in that incident.
CHP conducts maximum enforcement periods to crack down on unsafe and illegal driving during times of high traffic.
