73-year-old pedestrian hospitalized, driver’s vision impaired by sun

Arcata, Ca., (KIEM)- It’s odd to think of sunlight causing a crash. In a way, that’s what happened Thursday night in Arcata.

A gold Toyota driving south on Samoa Boulevard hit a 73-year-old pedestrian.

Earl Carey was crossing the Arcata street. He was in the cross walk when he was hit, just before 8:00 p.m. Thursday night. According to police, the driver of the vehicle’s vision was obscured directly by the sun, and she was driving the speed limit. Carey is in stable condition tonight at Mercy Medical Center in Redding.
