Fortuna Senior Center gives “A Salute to Veterans”

Fortuna, Ca., (KIEM) In the friendly City of Fortuna another Veteran’s Day celebration took place where family and friends of the fallen, sung and celebrated, as one.

The Fortuna Senior Center planned their annual “A Salute to Veterans” a 14-year tradition to bring awareness of all the sacrifices made by all veterans but also to support those who suffer from PTSD.

Marsha Hays of the Fortuna Senior Center said days like this are absolutely necessary.

“It’s a great honor to be here we’re here to honor the veterans and I think it’s important to also honor the veterans families, to pay tribute to the veterans families that supported the veterans while they were fighting,” said Hays. “It keeps us going because we feel very proud of the people that served, we are fortunate that we have people that I’ve done that.”

The 2018 featured speaker for this year’s “A Salute to Veterans” was Sergeant Casey Stephens, a former non-commissioned officer and combat veteran of Iraq.
