APD throws community Barbecue Wednesday; Rain or Shine

Arcata, Ca., (KIEM) The Arcata Police Department partnered with the Valley West Business Group are throwing a community Barbecue and all are invited.

Wednesday, city law officials will be at the Valley West Shopping Center. From 11 AM to 1 PM in an effort to bridge the gap between the community and police.

APD’s Brian Hoffman said this is an opportunity to break bread, have a great time, and to get your questions answered.

“Particularly now and days it seems like there is an almost a gap of trust between the community and officers. Stuff that doesn’t necessarily happen here, but we’re all kind of painted with the same brush,” said Hoffman. “So we need to make the opportunity come to us. I think if people come break bread with us, get to know us a little bit. They all will understand that we’re just like them. We’re fathers and brothers and Sons.”
