28th Vigil for Josiah Lawson, Thursday on Arcata Plaza

Arcata, Ca., (KIEM) Lawson supporter’s get ready for the 28th vigil for former Humboldt State University student, Josiah Lawson.

It has been almost two and a half years since Charmaine Lawson, mother of Josiah Lawson, received a devastating phone call that her son was killed.

Back in April of 2017, HSU sophomore, 19-year-old Josiah Lawson was fatally stabbed at an off-campus house party in Arcata.

On the night of the murder, 23-year-old Kyle Zoellner of McKinleyville was arrested at the scene and charged. A few weeks later the court judge dismissed the case for insufficient evidence.

Currently, with no witnesses coming forward and no current suspects. The Lawson’s, family supporters, and Arcata officials are still searching for answers.

Arcata’s Chief of Police said he wants Charmaine Lawson to know that he and the department will not stop working until the case is solved.

“With each day that passes is a reminder of what our obligations is; and it keeps us strong and there’s a lot of momentum behind continuing the investigation,” said Chief Brian Ahearn. “We stand in solidarity with Charmaine and her family. We understand what is at stake here, and I take personal responsibility for ensuring that there is justice.”

The vigil will be on Tuesday at 6 PM on the Arcata Plaza.
