Athlete of the Week: Jackson Strong


Humboldt State men’s basketball opens a 3-game road trip in San Francisco on Thursday night. Despite losing 8 of their last 10, Jackson strong could help HSU sneak into the CCAA tournament. In two seasons at Lumberjack Arena, the senior is making a case to be a future hall of famer.

Being mentioned with Issac Gildea symbolizes the coronation into North Coast royalty. Strong joined the McKinleyville legend against Cal Poly Pomona. His 10 made three’s in a single-game tied Humboldt State’s all-time record

The San Diego native considered among the best shooters in division 2 and is cementing his legacy in Arcata. Jackson is 4 three’s away from moving into the school’s top 5.

From hearing stories of playing at the University of Akron to spending hours fine-tuning his mechanics, his dad has been a pillar to his success at Lumberjack Arena. Learning about john’s health complications persuaded Jackson to use basketball as an outlet.

Following Thursday night’s loss against the Broncos, number 20 notched back-to-back 30 point games. When Redwood News asked Jackson about his dad’s illness, in respect to his family, he did not provide details, yet he says his dad John is a fighter.
