Parents scramble to find childcare amid Covid-19

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM)-North Coast parents were notified over the weekend of school closings which left some scrambling to find child care.

For mother of two children, Ruth Jensen closing schools is best to prevent
the spread of the corona virus.
Patients and understanding are what the public should exercise right now, according
to Jensen. If it comes down to it she will juggle child care with her husband.

“We’ll just tag team it, so we don’t deplete vacation days,” Jensen
said. “A lot of what I’ve been doing internally is trying to stay calm.”

Eureka Superintendent Fred Van Vleck said after their second emergency meeting their goal is to plan accordingly, such as planning for distant learning.

There are ways parents can keep up with updates involving school closures.

“So we’ll have direct contact with our parents through our auto-dialer
system,” Van Vleck said. “So the main thing I want to be doing if they are not
receiving messages through the auto-dialer is that they contact the school and
make sure that their contact information is updated.”
