South Fortuna Elementary School holds ceremony for official name change

FORTUNA, Calif. (KIEM) After fifty years, South Fortuna Elementary School is officially renamed Linell K. Walker Elementary.

This name comes from a staff member who dedicated over twenty years to students and families in the district.

Faculty members and local law enforcement came together today to witness the official renaming of the school, and after months of finalizing the name change the school will be officially known as Linell K. Walker Elementary School.

The decision to rename the school was approved from both the District School Board and South Fortuna Elementary School Site Council.

Walker dedicated twenty five years to helping assist youth in the educational system. Working as a secretary she left a lasting impression on her students and peers. She helped plan school activities and received the title of Humboldt County’s Classified Employee of the Year.

Superintendent for the Fortuna School District recalls his interactions with Walker and states her love for education left a lasting impression on himself and other educators.
