Arcata, California — On Sunday, July 23, 2023 just after 8 pm, Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call from a woman claiming her vehicle was broken into and her purse stolen.

Deputies met the woman at the south entrance of Hammond’s Trail, who said she was walking when she got text message alerts from her back, notifying her multiple purchases made recently that she didn’t authorize, totaling to almost $2,000.

After the woman got to her car, she discovered her car was broken into and her purse was missing.

Using the purchase history, deputies were able to track and located the suspect, 37-year-old Misty Milligan of Eureka. At 1 am on July 24, 2023, police observed a vehicle associated with Milligan, and conducted a traffic stop, contacting Milligan along with her passenger, 50-year-old Tasha Jantz. During a search, the missing purse was located inside the car, as well as methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other drugs.

Milligan was booked in Humboldt County Correctional Facility for theft by forged/invalid access.

Jantz was found to have an outstanding felony warrant. She was also booked on warrant charges of convicted felon in possession of a firearm and violation of probation.
