More Día de los Muertos events

Color Maíz is hosting a Día de los Muertos event, Festival de la Vida y Muerte, on November 3 and 4 at the Synapsis Union in Eureka. There will be a community altar, workshops, music and dancing.

On Friday, the event will focus on a community art altar and writing letters to one’s ancestors. People are invited to share traditions, flavors, and stories of about their families and loved ones. 

On Saturday, there will be a sensory meditation with Denise Villalva. There will also be a self-massage workshop by Emily May. At 4 p.m. there will be a stretching workshop. Starting at 5 p.m. there will be a rooting with salads and vinaigrettes workshop. At 6 p.m., there will be a basic step of the African Dance workshop. And at 7 p.m. the dance floor is open for everyone to enjoy. 

At the Jacoby Storehouse in Arcata, a collaboration between Centro del Pueblo, Los Bagels, and Arcata Playhouse set up a community altar on display for viewing. Community members are encouraged to see and add to the altar. People can add photos of those who they want to remember and celebrate for Día de los Muertos.
