Sunshine & Clear Skies All Weekend

Sunny skies from Mad River Bluffs
Sunny skies from Mad River Bluffs

This weekend’s weather was certainly for the dogs, as relatively warm temperatures and almost completely cloud-free skies across the north coast area had residents both two-and-four legged alike out enjoying the sunshine. Of course, some areas are off-limits for dogs, areas of Hiller park in McKinleyville included.  Kids and their families took advantage of this sunny day to play some ball and practice in the batting cages. Dogs are, of course, welcome on many trails and were happy to be sniffing around out doors. Some four legged-friends even managed to be joined by four-wheels. Others spent the day on two wheels rather than two feet, cycling around the area’s many bike-friendly roads.

A bit of wind in the afternoon around low-tide made for nice sailing conditions in Humboldt Bay, as others in powered boats set out to catch some fish or crabs.

California poppies are popping up as a certain sign of spring, which is just on the horizon.   Also on the horizon, the only inkling of clouds, seen in the distance from the Mad River Bluffs. The clear skies made for nice conditions for flying, for planes and birds alike– so clear that these cows had to take a break in the shade. Others cows basked in the sun, along with this huge flock of Canadian geese.

Mallard ducks are taking advantage of the standing water still present in some low-lying areas, a remnant of the recent weeks of stormy weather.  snow, still visible in the distance at Kneeland.  The coming days of sun should help dry up remaining muddy conditions.

Similarly pleasant conditions are forecast throughout the area for the next few days, with sunny or partly cloudy conditions forecast through Thursday.
