We’re at Cal Poly Humboldt’s Job Fair in Arcata, where over 30 employers are here to offer part time work to students.

“This is my favorite event of the year for the career development center. Because we get a chance to host local employers on campus and help students find employers that are looking for part time solutions to workforce shortages,” says Ann Johnson-Cruz, Employer relations outreach coordinator at Cal Poly Humboldt.

“Cal Poly Humboldt has an awesome pool of candidates here. And we want to make sure that our students get an opportunity to make their way into the community and make connections in the community. And, you know, by building connections, helping them get a job so that they can stay in school, they’re much more likely to graduate, but also be a better part of the community,” she says.

Jobs such as Pacific Medical Resources provide at-home care-giving and can fit a variety of schedules.

“We have a variety of caregiving, CNA, LPN, and R.N. positions that we hire for, and we come out and we meet with clients in their homes and just talk to them about what their basic needs are, what their goals are. And we try to personalize that care around exactly what they need at home and a caregiver or a nurse to that service that they’re needing,” says Bobbi Jo Huskey of Pacific Medical Resources.

For career-minded students interested in Environmental Science, CCAT is an on-campus group with internship options.

“Our mission is definitely to, like, demonstrate, like how you can live more sustainably. We all live at Seacat, so, like, it’s like, not just like being a student, as we can see, but, like, actually living and, like, practicing, like the sustainability lifestyle and making that, like, more accessible. especially like students on campus. It’s the buck house. We have a classroom downstairs, and then our house, like our rooms upstairs,” says Mekiah Glynn of CCAT, Center of Appropriate Technology.

If you’re into something more hands-on, such as in the trades industry, Danco Group is also looking for a good fit.

“We are a construction development property management group here locally in Arcadia. And, we are out here just really looking for a good fit for our team. Good cultural fit. So, we have all the trades, and then we do have accounting and property management and a development team. So really, we’re just looking for a good fit for our team. We are known for, I think enhancing the community. We do a lot of low income housing. We do some veterans housing, some permanent supportive housing,” says Cy Vandermeer of Danco Group.
