Hoopa Valley High students organize walkout over tensions with District Office

HOOPA, CA. – Hoopa Valley High School students organize a walkout to make a statement to school administrators.

The demonstration took place Wednesday morning from about 9AM to noon.

As for their reasons, students point to discontent with the Klamath-Trinity Joint Unified School District Superintendent Jon Ray, over matters of handling black mold in their school beginning in 2016, as well as a potential decision to replace current Principal Dusty Rossman.

The walkout was organized by senior Kis-Dyan-Te’ Joseph, who sent out a Snapchat invitation asking students to join in.

Message spread quickly and about 75 students heeded to the call.

Joseph says the rally caught attention, and students have been invited to meet with District Office staff on February 13, to formally voice their concerns.
