EUREKA – One man is dead after a shooting in Eureka.

The Eureka Police Department arrived to the alley behind the Shell gas station on Fifth Street to find a unresponsive male with multiple gunshots wounds.

The EPD responded to a report of shots fired last night just after 8. They arrived to find an unresponsive male lying in the alley behind the Shell gas station on Fifth Street with gunshot wounds to his torso. The man was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The subject allegedly charged at a security guard with a knife attempting to stab him. The shooter was identified as a uniformed on-duty armed security guard for a local security company.

“At this point it appears that we had an attempted assault with a deadly weapon in on the security guard and the security guard either fired back or fired at the subject and ultimately the subject died,” says EPD Detective, Patrick O’Neil

“We’ve got some interviews were canvassing the neighborhood to see if someone saw something and we haven’t spoken to them yet, you know obviously we’re going to be looking for any video footage for any other evidence that will be useful in our investigation.”

Detectives were on the scene throughout the night gathering evidence, and no arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Detective Bise

We have reached out to the Shell gas station management and they said they are not making a comment on this investigation.
