Burn Ban in Place in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties

Humboldt County, Ca., (KIEM)- In light of windy, dry conditions Cal Fire is temporarily suspending burning in Humboldt, Del Norte and West Trinity counties.

The Thomas Fire has become the third largest, and seventh most destructive in state history. As dry conditions and high winds prevail across the state, burning is now suspended.

Cal Fire has these tips to share with home owners, who would like to protect their property from potential fire damage:

· Clear all dead and or dying vegetation 100 feet from around all structures.

· Landscape with fire resistant/drought tolerant plants.

· Find alternative ways to dispose of landscape debris like chipping or hauling it to a biomass energy facility.
