Arcata, Ca., (KIEM)- An interim police chief is appointed as the search for a permanent department leader pushes on.

At the next meeting of the Arcata city council, staff will recommend Richard J. Ehle for the job. The word from city staff is, while the two lieutenants in the city are each capable of working as interim chief, it may make managing their current work load more difficult. As a public sector recruitment firm works to find a permanent replacement for Tom Chapman. Ehle will likely only serve for a few months but says he will continue to work on the Josiah Lawson case, and hopes his more than 25 years of experience will better prepare the department to handle homicide cases.
