FERNDALE – One of the most popular days at the Humboldt County Fair took place Sunday as youth F-F-A students competed for top prizes.
A warm and clear day attracted what seemed to be the entire county down to Ferndale and lines of cars began as soon as you crossed over the bridge. But it was by all accounts a perfect day to be at the granddaddy of all California fairs.
All sorts of animals were on display today. But it was about the auction and money for prized animals that would be used for breeding and of course food.
There were chickens and turkeys that fetched hundreds of dollars and the larger animals would go into the thousand.
But it was a sense of pride of accomplishment and tradition that flooded the fairgrounds Sunday and by the looks on everyone’s face it was a grand day indeed.
The fair is closed on Monday but will jump right back into action on Tuesday. It continues all week long through the holiday weekend. Monday’s theme is “Honoring our Veterans.” Those Vets who attend will get in free.
