Pawnee Fire grows to 10,500 acres, 5% contained

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – Now at 10,500 acres, and 5% contained, the Pawnee Fire in Lake County continues to grow.

Governor Brown has declared a State of Emergency after the blaze destroyed several buildings, and threatened hundreds of other structures since Saturday.

The Pawnee Fire has destroyed at least 22 buildings, and 600 more are still threatened.

At least two people have been injured in the blaze, and residents were ordered to evacuate from all homes in the Spring Valley area. (For the latest on evacuations, click here.)

As of early Tuesday, 237 personnel are battling the Pawnee Fire.

CalFire shared this update referring to efforts on Monday: “The fire burned very actively throughout the day in the Spring Valley area, north east of Clearlake Oaks in Lake County. The fire is being driven by low relative humidity, erratic winds, and above normal temperatures. Expanded evacuation orders are in effect for the entire Spring Valley area and residents are reminded to heed all evacuation orders. Additional resources are enroute to the incident.”
