Coffee with Captains: Public voices concerns to EPD

Every month the public joins the EPD for a “cup of joe” at their Coffee with Captains event. Today it was held at the Coast Central Credit Union in Eureka.

Patrol Captain, Brian Stephens, tells us many times the public feels they can’t go up to an officer and this event allows the community to view them in a different light.

This event allows residents to have a one on one conversation with the leaders at the department He tells us speaking to the top leaders allow concerns to go straight to the top.

Today they discussed everything from traffic violations to transient related issues with a county building.

“We have a group doing crime prevention through environmental design  so they’re looking at the areas we are having problems with,” he adds, “and how can we change the environment in that area to help reduce the crime or transient related issues in that area. So  I am going to put them in contact with the county and see if there is something we can do environmentally to help those people.”
