HYAMPOM, Calif. (KIEM) –  The Kerlin Fire spreads to 2,000 acres in its second day on Wednesday, burning in Trinity County, near the community of Hyampom.

The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office has issued evacuations for residents along County Road 311, from Lake Mountain Ranch, to Dead Man’s Point.

About 100 structures are threatened, and an evacuation center is now set up at Solid Rock Church in Hayfork.

The Kerlin Fire is 0% percent contained, and 217 firefighters are assigned to it. The cause is under investigation. They say steep terrain is hampering firefighting efforts.
