Eureka, Ca., (KIEM) Election Day is right around the corner but before you decide on which candidates will occupy Eureka’s City Council and Mayor seat you should probably know what each candidate is all about.

Humboldt and Del Norte Central Labor Council, North Coast People’s Alliance, Cooperation Humboldt along with 7 other co-sponsoring organizations planned the Eureka Candidates Forum for city council and mayor candidates in wards 1, 3 and 5 where each potential chair will answer questions from any of the 10 organizations.

In tonight’s meeting many subjects were visited from opinions on Measure K., living wage ordinance and several policy changes.

David Cobb of Cooperation Humboldt explained that this forum is not only to ask the tough questions but shared that this is also a way for the residents of Eureka to understand their next potential city council member and mayor.

“Forums like this are critically important for voters to be able to make their decisions because it’s one thing to get a 30 second advertisement on radio or television,” shared Cobb. “It’s another thing to have a concrete question posed about specific policies that the candidates are then forced to respond to.”

Cobb said each candidate were given their questions three days prior to Sunday.  Day 2 of the Eureka Candidate Forum will be held Monday, October 1 from 6-8pm in the Labor Temple in Eureka.
