Fortuna members of the California Conservation Corp flew out to Florida this week to help clean up the aftermath of Hurricane Michael.

They received a call from the headquarters in Sacramento Wednesday of last week, and by Monday of this week, 12 members were on their way. The hurricane has killed at least 39 people, and wiped Florida communities clean.

Corps members are starting by clearing downed trees, and debris. They will also be repairing the exterior of homes that can be salvaged. Conservation supervisor, Peter Luvass, who prepared the crew members, tells us they are ready and willing to do whatever else is needed.

Corps members will be gone for a total of 30 days and will return back to Fortuna on Thanksgiving Day.
