Vehicle smashes into fire hydrant on Old Arcata Road

Water was gushing out of a fire hydrant after a driver suspected of “driving under the influence,” collided with the hydrant just before 4 p.m. Sunday night.

The driver of a green sedan was traveling Southbound on Old Arcata Road when she missed her turn, and lost control of her vehicle, crashing into and severing the fire hydrant.

The car was later towed so that the Humboldt County Public Works could turn the hydrant off. No injuries were reported. The driver was detained.
