Eureka City Council approves new ‘Trespass on Private Property Ordinance’

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM) –  Eureka City Council heard the final reading of the newly approved ‘Trespass on Private Property Ordinance’ on Tuesday evening.

As Councilmember Austin Allison explained, “It’s essentially another tool or utility police officers can use to protect businesses or private property.”

The ordinance will allow for businesses, or property owners, to fill out a “trespasser form”.

The form will allow for trespass victims to include a description of the suspect, and any evidence that may link a person to reoccurring trespass. Ultimately, the ‘Trespass on Private Property Ordinance’ could ban people from entering a property.

The ordinance will go into effect in the beginning of January.
