Redwood National Park Accessible to Public during Government Shutdown

Crescent City, Ca. (KIEM) During the federal shutdown of the government national parks will remain as accessible as possible while still following all applicable laws and procedures. Park roads, lookouts, and trails at the Redwood National Park unit of Redwood National and State Parks, will remain accessible to visitors, but emergency and rescue services will be limited.

There will be no National Park Service (NPS)-provided visitor services at Redwood National Park, including public information, restrooms, trash collection, facilities and roads maintenance. Permits will not be issued for vehicle access to the Tall Trees Grove trailhead. No backcountry permits will be issued except for backcountry permits for Gold Bluffs Beach, which may be obtained at the Prairie Creek Visitor Center.

The Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park units of Redwood National and State Parks will remain open as normal because they are managed by California Department of Parks and Recreation.

Because of the federal government shutdown, NPS social media and websites are not being monitored or updated and may not reflect current conditions. All NPS programs have been canceled, including: ranger-led interpretive walks, educational school programs, and scientific research.
