Eureka, Ca., (KIEM) Christmas is over but the celebration of Kwanzaa is in full swing. Sunday evening members of the NAACP Eureka chapter came together to throw to a miniature Kwanzaa celebration.

The celebration takes place every year at the Eureka Labor Temple to celebrate family, community and culture. And most importantly to shine light on African and African American culture and history.

Sharrone Blanck President of the Eureka NAACP said this was her first year spending time with others for a Kwanzaa celebration but shared that she has really gotten an opportunity to learn about the holiday.

“This is all really new to me because I didn’t grow up celebrating Kwanzaa So I’m very excited now, shared Blanck.” “It’s a unique opportunity to have all people from African decent come together around positive qualities and the strength of us as a people.”

Kwanzaa is a Pan-African holiday celebrated from December 26th to January 1st.
