McGuire, Legislators move to ban sale of flavored tobacco

SACRAMENTO (KIEM)- North Coast state senator Mike McGuire has joined senator Jerry Hill and 16 other legislators in introducing a bill that would ban the sale of flavored tobacco in California.

Senate bill 38 would prohibit retail stores and vending machines from selling flavored tobacco products.

According to figures from the California Department of Public Health, 80 percent of youth who have used tobacco started with a flavored product.

The bill will be heard next in the Senate Appropriations Committee.
