Commercial Dungeness Crab Season ends April 15

Humboldt County, Ca., (KIEM) This week local crab fisherman aren’t happy as commercial crab season comes to an end earlier than expected.

Dungeness Crab Season will end Monday, about two and a half months early.

This after a settlement, between California’s Department of Fish and Wildlife and a wildlife advocacy group from Arizona. The group argues that that several species of whales and sea turtles were becoming entangled in commercial crab gear.

After reaching an agreement, the department said all Dungeness crab commercial fishing gear must be removed from ocean waters and landings must be completed by Monday, April 15 before 12 PM.
