Artists Make Sand Paintings at Art and Nature at the Refuge

LOLETA, CA. (KIEM) – Artists create sand paintings at the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

It’s all a part of their monthly Art and Nature Sessions. They show kids and adults of all ages the benefits of using wildlife as artistic inspiration.

This time around they’re doing sand painting because they choose natural elements. It is also broken down pieces of the earth. The sessions are free for everyone.

“Grab my brushes, my canvas, a photograph or a scene outdoors, and I just start painting on my canvas. Lots of people plan out their work, I don’t,” said Dolores Terry, an Artist.

“To create an expression of their experience of the world. So that’s what art and nature is. And we just want to get people out here. Away from their screens. Doing things outside. Looking at this beautiful earth we live on,” said Denise Seeger a Visitor’s Services Assistant at the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

The Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge hosts an Art and Nature session every third Sunday of the month. For more information call (707) – 733 – 5406.
