Gov. Newsom Signs New Bills for Wild Fire Preventions

SACRAMENTO, Ca. (KIEM) — Governor Gavin Newsom signed a couple of new bills to help with wildfires and natural disasters.

Two critical bills written by Senator Mike McGuire are part of packages that will provide first-of-its-kind communication rules and regulations.

These new laws will streamline communication and notifications during 911 outages and public shutoffs.

One of the bills will now require telecommunication providers to report 911 outages or outages affecting emergency alert technologies.

Another bill signed today, put together by Assemblymember Jim Wood (D-Santa Rosa), will establish a five year pilot program.

It will require California’s Office of Emergency Services and CAL Fire to work together to utilize a broad range of funding.
