Humboldt County, Ca. (KIEM) — The Economic Development Branch of the Emergency Operations Center continues to monitor the economic impact of Covid-19, and is releasing some new facts and figures.

Since the coronavirus pandemic first began, 11,000 unemployment claims have been filed locally. Over 2,400 jobs have been lost resulting in roughly $30 million in revenue loss. In addition to tracking the economic loss numbers, the EOC and Joint Information Center has reached out to 1,200 local businesses to assess their needs during this time.

According to economic development director Scott Adair, there is some good news. Local banks and financial institutions have contributed almost $100 million in resources to local businesses. The local job market has assisted 2,000 workers that have found themselves unemployed.
