MYERS FLAT, Calif. (KIEM) – Just after 6 p.m. Friday, a fire broke out in Southern Humboldt County near Myers Flat.

The vegetation fire led to the closure of U.S. Highway 101 for a few hours, forcing traffic onto the Avenue of the Giants for miles.

Cal Fire was quick to attack the moderately quick-moving blaze and according to authorities, the fire grew to roughly two acres in size.

Although the highway was back open by 11 p.m., expect delays in the area. Crews are expected to continue with mop up duty into the overnight hours.
