Pedestrians hit by car, Both expected to be OK

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM)-Two men are recovering after being hit by a car on Monday afternoon, while in a cross walk.

Both men sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for further treatment, the driver was not hurt.

Acting Patrol Sgt. Mathew O’Donovan says, it could have been a worse outcome.

“Officers from the Arcata Police Department, along with emergency personnel were dispatched to the intersection of H and 13 streets for a report of vehicle versus two pedestrians,” he said. “Officers arrived quickly and located both pedestrians, including the driver who remained on scene, and was cooperative with the investigation.”

Police department’s urge drivers use extra caution, especially during the day and in heavily populated areas, according to O’Donovan.

For reasons unknown, the male driver did not see the men, according to O’Donovan

The male driver was not ticketed or charged in the incident.

O’Donovan says, motorists must yield to all pedestrians, especially in a cross walk.
