CHP to implement maximum enforcement period this Labor Day weekend

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — Many California residents may be opting for a staycation rather than a long road trip this weekend, but California Highway Patrol is still implementing its maximum enforcement period this Labor Day.

CHP reminds all drivers to buckle up, avoid distractions, adhere to a safe and legal speed, and never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The MEP begins Friday, September 4th at 6:01 pm and will continue though 11:59 pm on Monday, September 7th.

During last year’s Labor Day weekend, 45 people were killed in crashes throughout California. CHP made more than 1,000 arrests for driving under the influence during the 78-hour enforcement period.
